Novel Lithium?Sulfur Polymer Battery Operating at Moderate Temperature

A safe lithium-sulfur (Li?S) battery employs a composite polymer electrolyte based on poly(ethylene glycol) dimethyl ether (PEGDME) solid at room temperature. The membrane enables stable and reversible Li?S electrochemical process already 50 °C, with low resistance the electrode/electrolyte interphase fast Li+ transport. relatively molecular weight of PEGDME optimal composition in terms salts ceramic allow liquid-like conversion reaction by heating moderately high temperature, still holding solid-like state cell. Therefore, cell is characterized typical dissolution lithium polysulfides into medium during discharge subsequent deposition sulfur charge. On other hand, remarkable thermal stability (up to 300 °C) suggests lithium-metal safety content significantly higher than that using common, flammable liquid solutions. Hence, delivers °C 2 V capacity approaching 700 mAh gS?1, steady-state coulombic efficiency 98 %. These results suggest novel, alternative approach achieve safe, high-energy batteries configuration.
